Day 04
“Nuova Barberia Carloni” – Necessario Theater (Italy)
Republic square
All Public | new circus | 50 min.

From the old barbershops there are rectangular mirrors covered by time, old shrill chairs and rusty instruments.
Just half a century ago, the barber was a favorite meeting place for gentlemen. A discreet place to freely discuss your subjects and ideas. And there was music, coffee, and eccentric anecdotes from the confidant barber. The barber was, for a brief moment, the focal point of the village.
The idea behind the show is to recreate the atmosphere of those not-too-distant times, when the barber used to sing, play music, serve drinks, give advice… in a word, entertain his guests. And, of course, he also shaved and cut his hair.
In the game, the stage is none other than the barber shop itself, animated by three aspiring barbers and the stalls of a large waiting room. The surrounding audience defines the spatial boundaries and, at the end of the show, is an integral part of the room, that is, the show.

Day 05
“Only” – SO Theater (Germany / Portugal)
Republic square
All audiences | visual poetry | 45 min.

“Sómente”, awarded in several countries, is a poetic show about loneliness in old age.
Due to lack of time, in the name of progress and rapid evolution of society, the elderly are being forgotten, even sometimes abandoned by friends and family. Their successes, their achievements, their commitment to work, over the years, are over, and they are, simply, Alone.
They wander through the city, waiting for a change, something happens or, simply, time passes. Only. On a garden bench. In the emptiness of a day… “Only”…
A play in which the affection, emotion and poetry of the images are in the foreground (without spoken text). Large show (set and character – walks), having a strong visual impact on public space (street theater).

Republic square
All audiences | dance / new circus | 50 min.

Each stormy night, an old man, exiled for a long time, approaches the coast, with the caress of the wind on his face, and relives distant memories. A dream awakened by a happy nostalgia to never forget and continue to live at all costs. Around an infinite cable, four bodies, in balance, will evolve like the waves of a past time that return and leave again and again.
In “Sodade” two musicians are present to play, sing and tell a fable at a great height.

Day 08
“Before starting” from Almada Negreiros – Companhia da Esquina (Portugal)
Courtyard of the Palace of the Gallery
Childhood | Theater | 45 min.

Somewhere, in the theater of the world, there is a doll and a doll that move like people do. Somewhere, in the theater of the world, there are the survivors of the Great Circus, two puppets that were saved by Man, the puppet maker who always took care of the puppets that were part of the great show.
The doll doesn't know that the doll moves like people and the doll doesn't know that the doll moves like people. When they discover that they are moving, they don't know if they are dolls or people.
People don't know that the doll and the doll move like they do. But man knows that his dolls have a heart, he is also certain that the heart instead of the head always knows everything, after all, after so many years of shows with his dolls, man also no longer he knows when he's a doll or when he's a man.
But it doesn't matter, first of all, the show must be perpetuated, the memory of the Great Circus must continue, it must be communicated. The man, before starting, announces the show.
Puppets? Puppets? Perhaps. But… silence, please. Because the play before the play has already started. After all, at Teatro do Mundo, the show never ends.

Day 09
“A Barca” – Companhia da Esquina (Portugal)
Wide in front of the Castle
All audiences | Physical theater | 45 min.

Abarca is the passage, the waiting, the desire to go, the boarding, the other side.
From “O auto da Barca do Inferno” by Gil Vicente, a deconstruction of the senses and the farcical universe. An oneiric approach, through physical theater, an expansion of the symbolic elements of the show, a grotesque farce with possibilities for dialogue between gestures, masks and performance.

Day 10
“The Incredible Box” – La Tal (Spain)
Republic square
All audiences | performance / installation | 50 min.

More than 150 years after its debut, The Incredible Box continues to be successful. Today the director, the founder's great-grandson, and two assistants try to keep the show going… it doesn't have the splendor of the beginning, but they keep some costumes, scenery and spirit.

Maybe at the end of trying so hard to be magnificent, they will succeed.

A poetic allusion to the work of the land through an ancestral object/application that relates man to the landscape. It starts with ritual, effort and resistance to symbolically present any agricultural cycle. Dig, sow, germinate, water and harvest.
Through the deconstruction of the hoe, the spirit of rural materiality is alluded to in the urban context, which is increasingly immaterial/evanescent. Remember the origins, the importance of agriculture in the settlement of peoples, its development and the relationship between man and nature.
Archaic/contemporary dialectics, in Portuguese territory, in accelerated transformation. Where is the rural and where does it go?

Day 13
“School” – Armação do Artista (Portugal)
Tavira downtown
All audiences | traveling animation | 35 min.
