In Castro Marim, the snails “speak” several languages

There are Portuguese style snails, but also French, Spanish and Moroccan recipes

Colina do Revelim de St. António, in Castro Marim, will once again host the International Snail Festival between the 20th and 22nd of July, where snail recipes from here join other recipes from France, Spain and Morocco.

In 2018, the party will extend to three restaurants in the village, which accepted the challenge of the municipality to provide menus «practicing the same price list as the event», according to the Chamber of Castro Marim, which organizes the event. The participating establishments are the Serafim cafe, the O Forte restaurant and the O Sapal snack bar.

The event opens on Friday, July 20th, at 19 pm, with street entertainment by the group “Pardais à Solta”. This is followed, at 00 pm, with a concert by Nelson Conceição Trio, «with a repertoire that ranges from tango to the little “corridinho” in accordion. At 20 pm, the Spanish flamenco-pop music group “Calle Pureza” takes the stage.

On Saturday, July 21st, “Sparrows à Solta” will launch the party again, at 18:30 pm. At 20:00, there is Andalusian music from Morocco, with “Al-Sultan Wal Awtar”. From 21 pm onwards, it is the turn of the “Gracia Diaz” flamenco group. The evening's program ends with a concert by the group “Os Quatro & Meia”, «a new show of Portuguese music, with the sound of guitar, double bass, violin, accordion, mandolin and percussion».

On the last day, 22nd of July, the street entertainment, which starts at 18 pm, is followed by the show “Conjunto Memórias de António Mafra”, “which recalls one of the greatest names in Portuguese popular music”. The International Caracol Festival ends with a concert by the “Amantes d'Fado”, scheduled for 30 pm.

«To affirm Castro Marim as a destination for the best snails in the Algarve and also to promote local and traditional products, as well as Mediterranean cuisine and culture, are the main objectives of the municipality with the holding of the International Caracol Festival», concluded the Câmara de Castro Marim.
