Albufeira SEF head detained for corruption

A man received money "on the promise of rapid issuance of residence permits"

Joaquim Patrício, head of the delegation of the Aliens and Borders Service (SEF) in Albufeira, was arrested this Thursday, 26 July, on suspicion of corruption, advances the Correio da Manhã.

According to that newspaper, the «inspectors searched the house of Joaquim Patrício and the offices of the SEF, in Albufeira, where the searches lasted all morning».

However, the PJ has already issued a statement, cited by Diário de Notícias, in which it reveals that the investigation "was based on the participation of the SEF, an entity that collaborated closely with the Judiciary Police during all the steps."

The Public Ministry has also reacted and added that "the detainee received monetary amounts from foreign citizens upon the promise of rapid issuance of residence permit certificates."

Joaquim Patrício, 56, will be presented, within 48 hours, to the investigating judge for the first judicial interrogation and application of coercive measures.

In this investigation, the Public Ministry is assisted by the Southern Directorate of the Judiciary Police.
