The Baixa Street Fest starts this Friday, the 13th of July, and until the 24th of August, it's back to Faro, always on Fridays, to promote local culture, arts and commerce.

Traders and entrepreneurs associations cooperated with the Chamber of Faro to put the downtown night entertainment program back on its feet

As in previous years, the initiative takes place between 21 pm and midnight with an itinerant program that includes various types of performances, from street scenes, concerts, theatre, new circus to light and sound shows. The involvement of commerce is one of the distinctive features of the event, with participating establishments offering discounts and extended opening hours until midnight.

To Rogério Bacalhau, president of the Chamber of Faro, «the intention is to reinforce the stimulus to local commerce, with an even more dynamic entertainment program, itinerant and with the best street performers national and, this year, international. Basically, we are continuing the work we have done so far and which we believe has helped to attract an increasing number of visitors and tourists».

«On the other hand, the Baixa Street Fest also contemplates a dimension of rediscovery by the locals from its Baixa and the most traditional singularities of our city. This is good for the valorization of the territory and to increase the sense of belonging and pride of those who live here», he adds.

These will be "nights of great entertainment and where the return of the crowds that every year have revived the ancient spirit of this prestigious historic Algarve downtown are expected", says, in turn, the City Council. Faro.

On the first night of Baixa Street Fest, the show “Euphoria 1” will invade the Manuel Bivar Garden and involve the audience in an experience directly linked to the sea and the Algarve.

This show, created by Mauro Amaral with scenography by Ricardo Viegas, Maria Bagarrão and Bruno Palmeira, starts at around 21 pm and is part of a larger project entitled “Aquatropia” which will be presented on September 00th, in Faro, in the City Day celebrations.

“Euphoria 1” is a “daring initiative and an inspiring experience, which promotes art in its most different forms, bringing together live music, theater, scenography and characterization in a single show”, says the organization.

«This one has water as its main element, the element that, more than any other, defines a large part of being Portuguese. Bathing the Algarve, water represents the region's great biological, geological and cultural diversity. The sea determined a whole culture, a whole history in the region and this is the story that Euphoria 1 comes to portray to us».

For the realization of this multidisciplinary show, a team of more than 30 local artists was joined, including actors from the te-Atrito group and animators from the Maxim'Us group. The performance, which lives a lot from music, also counts with the participation of musicians such as Ricardo Coelho, João Melro, Paulo Franco, Ivo Martins, Luís Lourenço, Cátia Alhandra and Nelson Conceição, who together will create a contagious environment in which the audience and the artists.

“Euphoria 1” and “Aquatropia” are two events produced by Estrafega Produções which, according to Nuno Filhó, executive director, bets on year zero of this initiative with the desire to assert itself as an annual show that will celebrate the communion between the city of Faro, the Algarve and the Ria Formosa.

In addition, this production intends to serve as a foundation to, over the next few years, explore other aspects such as creative residencies, artistic training and inclusive activities.
