The Lower Guadiana Christian Democratic Movement (MDCBG) is presented on June 17, in Alcoutim.

At the origin of the MDCBG is the Castro Marim Christian Democratic Movement, which started in 2016.

After internal reflection and gathering the contributions of all those involved, the expansion of this movement emerged under the motto: “It is much more that unites us than that which separates us”, which is the starting point for taking action, as stated by Victor Hugo Palma.

According to the MDCBG, «all stakeholders concluded that it makes no sense for everyone to work only for themselves, because there are many problems waiting for an answer that are common to all of us, and that sharing and greater proximity between these people councils, can contribute to greater efficiency in the use of available resources that are scarce'.

«This movement brings together citizens from all the districts of Baixo Guadiana (Alcoutim, Castro Marim, Vila Real de Santo António and Tavira) around the Christian humanism that is incompatible with “Social Exclusion”, the non-defence of “Human Rights” and the "Rule of Law", aimed at combating poverty, social inclusion, with the awareness that the individual, given their rights and duties, is considered an important agent in their inclusion process, actively participating in the solution, or that is, putting oneself in an active position and not in a passive position, where the solutions start from the top to the bottom without considering the individual».

Democracy “must be, in its form and content, coherent with the action, and this should not violate the dignity of people and produce autonomy/self-determination in them, also considering the defense of our collective identity”.

For this movement, “to be a Christian Democrat is to refuse an omnipresent and omnipotent State and, in its place, defend a Rule of Law, reject Social Exclusion and the non-defence of Human Rights, value the family as the basic pillar of society, solidarity among men and freedom and individual responsibility, respecting the person as a unique and unrepeatable being from conception to natural death».

All participants in this project believe that “they can make a difference in their interventions aimed at the community in general, with a humanist trend, of inclusion and, never, under any circumstances, of exclusion of anyone”.

"Unlike those who direct their action to society as a whole, generalizing the "recipes", or still others who direct their action only to a privileged part of it", the movement defends "the human being, must be the center of economic, social and political concerns, considering their specificities, that is, they must be treated as unique and unrepeatable beings, without forgetting their competences».
