«The boats of Arade…48 years later» is the theme of the meeting with Helder Mendes, former RTP director and diver, scheduled for next Saturday, June 9th, at 17 pm, in the room of the Faina restaurant, in the Portimão Museum.

Returning to their usual “Conversations with Portimão in the background”, the Group of Friends of the Portimão Museum (GAMP) proposes this time an underwater trip, in the company of Helder Mendes, 48 years after this former RTP director, having dived and filmed for Portuguese television, the famous documentary “The mysterious boats of the river Arade”, discovered following the dredging of the river in 1970, and broadcast for the first time in July 1972.

It is, according to GAMP, an «excellent opportunity to learn more about this “mysterious” and interesting episode in the history of Portimão, with one of its main protagonists».

The theme of this get-together is particularly interesting because, precisely this month of June, a new campaign of underwater archaeological excavations is taking place in the Arade River, a topic that, who knows, may also come up in the session.

The GAMP adds that, with the get-together taking place at the Faina restaurant, at the Museu de Portimão, «in addition to this knowledge and cultural crossovers, we will also be able to discover and share, among friends, some flavors peculiar to our fluvial-maritime proximity».
