As of this Saturday, 31 June, 30 health posts guarantee nursing care on the beaches of the Algarve.

The objective is "to respond to less serious clinical situations that can be treated on site, or, if necessary, refer the user to a more appropriate health unit", explains the Regional Health Administration (ARS) of the Algarve.

These posts will operate on beaches in the municipalities of Aljezur, Vila do Bispo, Lagos, Portimão, Silves, Lagoa, Albufeira, Loulé, Faro, Olhão, Tavira, Castro Marim and Vila Real de Santo António.

The beach health posts will be open from 30 June to 16 September, with opening hours from 10:00 am to 18:00 pm (until 15 July) and from 10:00 am to 19:00 pm (16 July to 31 August).

From the 1st to the 16th of September, seven posts are open from 10:00 am to 18:00 pm.

Vacationers can resort to nursing health care on the beach in situations such as sunstroke, tension break, spiderfish bites or small abrasions to receive treatment on site, avoiding unnecessary travel to any health facility.

In case of need, the beach health post also functions as a point of clarification and screening, with the user being referred by the nursing professionals to an appropriate health unit.

The resources allocated to the posts are enhanced through telephone communication between the nurses at the posts and the INEM's Urgent Patients Guidance Center (CODU), allowing for an adequate integration with the pre-hospital device.

This is an initiative of the ARS do Algarve and the Portuguese Red Cross. To see the map of beaches where there will be health posts, click here
