An 88-year-old man was seriously injured after his car was hit by a train, at the level crossing on the Monchique road, between Jardim Gil Eanes and Rotunda das Cardosas, in Portimão.

The accident happened around 13:30 pm this Saturday and the alert was given shortly after, "at 13:37 pm", as he revealed to Sul Informação the District Relief Operations Command (CDOS) of Faro.

The fact that this passage is very close to the CP station in Portimão, which means that trains run at a slower speed, will have helped to avoid greater problems.

The man, although not seriously injured, ended up being transported to the Hospital de Portimão. The removal of the injured car forced the cut off of circulation on the Algarve Line, but “the situation was quickly resolved”.

16 men, supported by seven vehicles, between elements of the Fire Department and the police rushed to the site.
