The project New Sagres School is back and, on the 7th and 8th of July, it will be possible to build a replica of a 10 meter long caravel at the Fortaleza de Sagres.

This project, organized by the Centro Ciência Viva de Lagos and which is part of the DiVaM program of the Regional Directorate of Culture of the Algarve, aims to bring together in Fortaleza various areas of scientific and practical knowledge, from the past to the present.

Participants will experience building a 10-metre-long modular caravel, handling navigation instruments, reading maps and charts, using sundials, conducting astronomical observations, examining collections as a way to preserve the future, making holograms, exploring videos in virtual reality, understand 3D modeling and learn a little robotics and programming in a workshop environment.

The theme “Heritage, which Future?”, by DiVaM, will be put into practice through the latest technologies. At the same time, history and the past will be preserved.

As a reference to the oral heritage and its preservation, there will be a presentation of the show “Sons da Palavra”, a session of traditional Algarve legends and tales narrated and set to music by Fungo Azul, at 18 pm.

The event will last for two days and activities will take place from 14:00 to 20:00. On Saturday, there will also be a concert by the Deep:her project, which precedes the astronomical observation, which will take place on Saturday, July 7th, at 21 pm.

“Deep:her” is a GI Joe and Emmy Curl project that explores the intertwined paths of machines and the purest of instruments: the voice.
