"Accessibility: what prevents good practices?" is the theme of the debate promoted by Acesso Cultura, in collaboration with the Municipal Museum of Loulé, scheduled for today, Tuesday, June 19, at 18 pm, at Alcaidaria do Castelo, in Loulé.

This is an initiative open to professionals in the cultural sector and to all interested people, in which the aim is to make a joint reflection on issues related to accessibility - physical, social and intellectual - that have an impact on the cultural work developed and on the relationship with people with varied profiles.

Participating in this debate are Ana Rosa Sousa, from Loulé Municipal Museum, Rui Gonçalves, from Teatro das Figuras, Teresa Valente, from Câmara de Faro, and João Serrão, from Câmara de Loulé (moderator).

«The experts say that, in Portugal, the accessibility law (nº163/2006) is very good. But, for the most part, it is not fulfilled. Law No. 129/2017, “Model of Support for Independent Living”, was also recently voted, which also brings very relevant elements with regard to cultural participation. Like any law, they do not specify, cannot specify, all the details so that its implementation is fluid, peaceful, without any hitches. What is not specified in detail is sometimes managed through so-called “good practices”. Practices that we are not legally obligated to implement, but that we know will improve the service we provide. Even these, however, are not implemented, indicating a certain lack of mental preparation and availability to create better conditions for accessibility. What are the barriers to implementing good practices? How can we overcome them?”

In addition to Loulé, this event takes place simultaneously in Évora, Funchal, Lisbon, Porto and Vila Mova de Famalicão. Admission is free (subject to room capacity).
