The book “António Ramalho Ortigão and the Tile Collection of the Municipal Museum of Faro” was presented last Saturday, June 23rd. 

«The work presents a set of pieces corresponding to an exceptional collection of tiles, dating from the XNUMXth to the XNUMXth centuries, offered to the Municipal Museum of Faro, in June 1963, by the family of António Macedo Ramalho Ortigão, after his death. illustrious son of Faro and a distinguished naval officer, António Ramalho Ortigão has his name linked to museums and culture», explains the Chamber of Faro.

This publication is the result of a research work carried out by Marco Lopes (Director of the Municipal Museum of Faro), Alexandre Pais and Constança Azevedo (Conservators of the Museu Nacional do Azulejo).

Edited by the local authority of Faro with the support of Montepio, the book received an Honorable Mention in 2017 by the SOS Azulejo Award, in the category of Research in Art History.

In addition to the authors, the session had the institutional presence of the City Council, through councilor Sophie Matias, the Montepio Foundation, the Ramalho Ortigão family and commander Nuno Cortes Lopes, captain of the Port of Faro.
