The 10th of June, Day of Portugal, Camões and the Portuguese Communities, will be commemorated with an initiative on the theme of libraries, at the Sagres Promontory, which includes “Readings in the Landscape” and “Concertos ao Entardecer”.

This will be a "versatile program", making known the importance of libraries as a source of knowledge, inspiration and sharing, while at the same time intending to pay homage to the Portuguese language in its various expressions, in an initiative that integrates the European Year of Cultural Heritage 2018.

The program will start at 16 pm with the presentation of the project “Europeana – Think Culture”, by Ana Lopes from the Europe Direct Center (Coordination and Regional Development Commission of the Algarve).

Europeana is a virtual library developed by the countries of the European Union, with the purpose of constituting a digital platform of the European cultural heritage, through which citizens could access images, text, sound, video and 3D material from museums, libraries and galleries from all over Europe.

The program continues with the presentation of the smallest library in the region, by Dário Teixeira, responsible for the project to create the Sagres library and the recently inaugurated “reading booth”, carried out with the contribution of the local community, followed by an exhibition by Rui Soares , educator and president of the International Association of Paremiology, addressing the theme of the library from the perspective of strengthening cultural identity and highlighting the power of proverbs as a source of knowledge.

"Readings in the Landscape" to take place at 17:20 pm will be a time to pay tribute to the book and the pleasure of reading, the opportunity to experience the pleasure of reading together, through a performative and participatory journey of reading aloud, softly or whispering, of discovering some authors of Lusophony and the physical and heritage space of the promontory. “Readings in the Landscape” is a creation of Conceição Gonçalves – Tertúlia – Associação Sócio – Cultural de Aljezur.

The program ends at 18:00 with a concert by Momo, part of the cycle “Concertos ao Entardecer” taking place in the auditorium of the Sagres Fortress, a production by Arquente Associação Cultural, part of the DiVaM program – Dynamization and Valorization of Monuments.

Singer and composer Momo, musical nickname of Marcelo Frota, has in his group of followers names like Patti Smith and David Byrne. Camané is one of the most recent confessed fans of this Brazilian who chose Portugal to live.

«He is an excellent lyricist, with sensitivity to portray everyday life, especially Alfama's (…). It is this neighborhood – which Momo is more passionate about than most Portuguese – that gives its name to the song that he invited me to sing with him», says the fado singer.

Momo released several albums that deserved international acclaim and recognition. Voá is his last album (2017), which unites samba and fado and which “represents the geographical change, the crossing of the Atlantic, this thing from overseas,” says wanderer Momo.

This is an initiative that integrates the European Year of Cultural Heritage 2018, organized by the Regional Directorate of Culture of the Algarve in collaboration with the Center Europe Diret (CCDR – Algarve), Sagres Library / Book Club, International Association of Paremiology, Tertúlia Associação Partner – Aljezur Cultural and Arquente – Cultural Association.
