Rowing to help the lives of users of the Humanitarian Association for Parkinson's and Alzheimer's Patients in Quarteira. This is the motto of Rogério Machado, a physiotherapist who will do a fixed rowing marathon, next Saturday, June 30, at 10:00 am, in Vilamoura, to raise donations for the association's headquarters.

The race will be held at the Browns Sports Center, in Vilamoura, and has a total of 42.195 kilometers, the distance of a marathon.

The challenge serves as a pretext for raising donations for the recent headquarters of the Humanitarian Association of Parkinson's and Alzheimer's Patients, located in Quarteira, but also wants to raise awareness of the characteristics of these two degenerative diseases and the difficult process in which family members get involved.

Rogério Machado thus found the perfect formula to make a difference.

“A knee injury led me to start using the Fixed Rowing machine in the gym to facilitate recovery. I started to feel improvements and to take a liking to the sport. I love challenges and thought of doing the distance of a marathon paddling and, why not, channeling the effort into an act of solidarity. I chose this cause because my uncle died of Parkinson's and I have a great friend with this terrible disease», he says.

“Remar Para Ajudar” already has the support of several entities in the region and public institutions. Loulé City Council and Quarteira Parish Council joined the initiative, providing logistical support for the day of the event.
