The Chamber of Faro it has at its disposal 4,3 million euros of the balance carried over from last year and is going to propose a budget review to be able to allocate them. The intention is to carry out work, mainly on the municipality's road network, but there is also money for the associations, for the Parish Councils, for social housing and to renew the municipality's car park.
The plans of the Chamber of Faro for the balance carried over from the previous year were revealed this Monday, at a press conference. According to the president of the municipality of Faro, Rogério Bacalhau, the proposal will be voted on at today's Chamber Meeting, on June 18, and will then be submitted to the Municipal Assembly later this month.
The 4,3 million euros will be distributed over four major areas, with the lion's slice being set aside for works. And the most expensive is aimed at four-legged friends. For the Official Collection Center project, the future kennel of Faro, a sum of one million euros is reserved.
Of the remaining interventions planned, the vast majority will be included in a new edition of the Faro Requalify, the 4th. With regard to the road network, the improvement of «streets and many squares» all over the county is planned (see list below).
“Several roundabouts” will also be built, including one at the crossroads between Avenida Calouste Gulbenkian and Rua do Alportel/EN 2 and another on Avenida 5 de Outubro, which will make it possible to “turn Tomás Cabreira and school street in a one-way street. reorganize that zone'.
There is also funding for the construction of big trunks in the New Cemetery of Faro (130 thousand euros). as the Sul Informação advanced, the construction of 176 drawers is already underway, with a further 336 planned to be built in the near future..
The Budget Revision proposal also includes a budget of 145 euros for social housing, including houses in Montenegro to relocate the fishermen of Praia de Faro, but also a new subdivision in the Atalaia area and housing at controlled costs on Estrada Nossa Senhora da Saúde.
For associations, 757 euros will go. «We had already launched the competition to support associations in November and now we are going to distribute the funds», summarized Rogério Bacalhau.
The Parish Councils will also receive part of the extra 4,3 million, under execution agreements that they will sign with the City Council, to maintain green spaces.
«We already had this agreement with the parish of Montenegro. Now, we are going to sign a similar agreement with the União de Freguesias de Faro, which will assume the maintenance of green areas in a phased manner. In September, it will have one zone and will take over the others from January 2020", according to the mayor of Faro.
The remaining amount, 210 thousand euros, will be used to acquire a vehicle and equipment for the Firefighters Sapadores in Faro. This will be the kick-off for investments to be made in the coming years in order to renew the municipality's car park.
Despite having a majority in the Chamber, the PSD/CDS-PP/PPM/MPT coalition by which Rogério Bacalhau was elected does not have a majority of members in the Municipal Assembly. Still, the president of the Chamber of Faro does not anticipate problems.
«I think it won't fail. Certainly there will be calls for attention and possible contributions, but I believe it will pass, even because we have done previous work» with the opposition parties, he guaranteed.
These are the works and measures to be taken this year. But the Chamber of Faro there are many more things in the pipeline.
The most advanced projects are the Camping Park of Praia de Faro and the construction of three pre-school rooms at the Bom João EB1.
By the end of the current term, the Chamber expects to complete at least two of the three phases of the work to complete the 3rd circular of Faro. Soon, the connection of the existing section of this road, in Vale da Amoreira, to Estrada da Penha, where a roundabout will be built, will be advanced. In a second phase, the ring road will be extended to the primary school area of Lejana.
Finally, the connection will be made between Estrada da Penha and the roundabout in Olhão, next to the Athletics Track, and from Lejana to the EN 125, to a roundabout to be built at Pontes de Marchil.
The timing of this last intervention is still uncertain, taking into account that «that area is complicated, as it is the EN125 and there is a stream», which requires more in-depth studies, which will now begin.
