About ten and a half houses, in the center of the village of Almancil, were damaged this Wednesday, due to an electrostatic discharge, during the thunderstorm that hit the center of the Algarve, around midday.

The house of Joaquim Pinto, president of the Parish Council, was the most affected, as the discharge caused a fire that destroyed the attic and spread to other areas, mainly on the first floor.

The mayor advanced to the Sul Informação that electrostatic discharge affected 15 houses on Rua Afonso III. «The exterior plastering jumped, several houses were cracked and there are still houses without electricity», despite the fact that EDP is working on the site.

The intensity of the discharge was such that “there were people who thought it was an earthquake. Even the GNR, which is about 800 meters from this location, had no communications», he said.

Despite the scare, a source from the District Relief Operations Command told our newspaper that "there were no wounded or homeless."

The firefighters of Loulé, GNR and EDP were involved in the relief operations, in a total of 23 operational and 9 vehicles.

According to Bruno Gonçalves, responsible for the blog Meteofontes, the website of the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and the Atmosphere registers two negative downloads at 11:35 am and 11:48 am, near Quarteira and Almancil, as well as a positive one, at 11:32 am, in the Montenegro area.
