Nelson de Souza, Secretary of State for Development and Cohesion, was this Thursday, May 3, in Faro, to learn «more about the vision and the project» of the Algarve Technological Pole. 

The government official paid a working visit to the Algarve's Regional Coordination and Development Commission (CCDR), where he assessed the implementation of CRESC Algarve 2020 and learned about the first results of the discussion of the Regional Strategy for the post-2020 period.

Then, the delegation went to the Penha Campus of the University of Algarve (UAlg) to learn more about the vision and project of the Algarve Technological Pole, which should be installed in spaces that will be re-qualified for this purpose, in both fields de Faro of Academy.

After the reception by Paulo Águas, UAlg's rector, the government official attended presentations by Miguel Fernandes, Algarve Tech Hub, Hugo Barros, director of CRIA – UAlg's Entrepreneurship and Technology Transfer Division, and the Municipalities of Faro and from Loulé.

Nelson de Souza expressed “his support for this cooperation initiative between the public, business and academic sectors”.

"The concept of ecosystem, cluster, network, cooperation is the only way for territories to gain competitiveness," said the official, after the meeting that involved the main stakeholders of the project, stating that he has known «the funds for over 30 years, I know the work and mentality of our entrepreneurs. The creation of this Technological Pole will be possible with the support of European Union Funds and the willingness of companies to organize themselves in the first place».

“Cooperation between partners, consensus and the involvement of all actors is fundamental. Networking is crucial. It is the network that saves us in the most critical moments of our professional and personal life» concluded Nelson de Sousa.

In turn, Francisco Serra, president of the CCDR, stated that «the Algarve Regional Coordination and Development Commission and the CRESC Algarve 2020 Management Authority have the machine ready to issue the warning in the coming weeks, so that the University of Algarve can apply».
