Catarina Martins, national coordinator of the Bloco de Esquerda (BE), participates this Saturday, May 19, in the commemorative dinner of the party's 19th anniversary, scheduled for 20:00, at the restaurant “Retiro do Peixe Assado”, in Portimão.

One of the objectives of this initiative is also to mark the election of the new Coordinating Committee of BE de Portimão.

At the elections of the new Coordinating Commission for the 2018-20120 biennium, only a list was presented with the motto “Asserting the Left Bloc as a socialist and popular alternative in Portimão”.

The new Portimonense Blocist council now has the following composition: Bruno Lourinho, Elvira Meco, Helder Porfírio, João Bárbara, Joaquina Lourenço, João Vasconcelos, Luisa Penisga, Marco Pereira, Maria Rosa Dias, Miguel Madeira, Paulo Afonso, Marilu Batista, Paulo Oliveira and Pedro Mota.

The new council will focus its activity over the next two years on «intransigent combat, in conjunction with the national and regional Bloc, against all types of austerity, real or hidden, supported by the Budget Treaty and subservience to the deficit and to Brussels” and in a “determined and intransigent fight against the absolute majority of the PS/Portimão and against any type of right-wing populism in the county, seeking to affirm and reinforce the Bloc as a socialist and popular alternative, always at the service of the popular classes and the needy ».

The objective is also to increase the number of BE members and strengthen the organizational and intervention capacity of the Left Block Nucleus in Portimão.

At this commemorative dinner there will be interventions by Catarina Martins and João Vasconcelos, BE deputy, elected by the circle of Faro, on the national, regional and local political situation.
