More than 80 people were this Saturday at Meia Praia, in Lagos, in yet another edition of the Water Kings, a race that brings together various types of water sports and which, in 2018, had a moment of «pure adrenaline».

This is «a unique and pioneering event in the world that brings together teams that face each other and alternate between four different nautical sports – kitesurfing, windsurfing, stand up paddle and light sailing – over 12 hours non-stop», according to the event's organizers.

On Saturday, «the variation in weather conditions forced a good management of the teams' entry timings at different times and in the modalities chosen in each period», which motivated «12 hours of pure adrenaline challenging the sea and the unique conditions that Meia Praia in Lagos offer water sports enthusiasts».

«We are very pleased to bring together in Lagos, in a unique event, athletes from various nautical modalities. There were excellent conditions for the four sports and the ingredients are gathered so that we can continue to invest in this format. This year we had more than double the number of teams registered in the previous edition, which confirms that we are on the right path», according to Francisco Lufinha, organizer of the Water Kings.

Hugo Pereira, deputy mayor of Lagos, believes that «this type of event is the way to continue to affirm Lagos and the sea, taking advantage of the natural conditions for nautical sports and showing that Lagos is a place of excellence for this type of activity.”
