The Municipality of Faro will be present at the “Portugal Social Economy” fair, which takes place from this Wednesday, May 23, at the Lisbon International Fair (FIL), at Parque das Nações.
Faro it will have its own stand to show the «City bet» in the social area. Thus, the City Council will present two innovative social projects in the municipality.
In addition to the Department of Social Action and Education, two solidarity institutions belonging to the Local Council for Social Action, with which it has developed a network work, will be represented on the exhibitor: the GATO – Help Group for Drug Addicts, which will present the his project “Crescer Mudando”, and the AAPCDM-Algarvian Association of Parents and Friends of Mentally Diminished Children, with the presentation of its educational restaurant “O Compromisso”.
This “Crescer Mudando” (Crescer Mudando) project, also known as GAP – Psychosocial Support Office, began in 2008, and re-opened a new application in 2013 to respond to the needs found in the Diagnosis of the municipality of Faro.
The project “Crescer Mudando 2” was then formulated, with care and referral actions for children, adolescents and adults, individual psychosocial monitoring, with psychological assessment and psycho-pedagogical monitoring, awareness-raising actions in the area of health education, actions to promote health. health, holiday camps, personal, social and parenting skills training groups and parenting help groups.
In turn, the pedagogical restaurant “O Compromisso” at AAPCDM works as a simulator space, similar to what young people will find when they start their practice in the work context.
The project serves as a «catalyst for change in the way the training process is developed, seeking to adapt it to the individual needs of clients, enabling them to face the reality of the world of work», explains the Chamber of Faro.
In social terms, «the pedagogical lunches work as a mirror with which to promote a change in the traditional view that links disability to incapacity, showing the community that despite their limitations these young people will be able to enter the labor market, becoming active and participative members».
Students from this association will demonstrate their talent, during the event, with cooking demonstrations: on the 23rd, traditional delicacies will be prepared, through the “cook” course, and on the 24th, demonstrations will be given through the “Table Employee” course, with execution of bar service, including non-alcoholic cocktails.
The event is seen by the municipality as «an excellent vehicle to promote its social and integration work carried out in favor of a more inclusive territory, giving visibility to innovative social projects developed in partnership with solidarity institutions in the municipality of Faro».
At the stand of the Municipality of Faro Projects developed by the municipality, through its Department of Social Action and Education, will also be made known, such as the Management of the Municipal Housing Park, Temporary Support Accommodation, the Information and Mediation Service for People with Disabilities, the Local Center Support for Integration of Migrants, the Support Office for Emigrants, the Social Service Network, the Support Office for the Elderly, Social Transport, the Social Garden, the promotion of the Local Volunteer Bank, among other actions in the social area.
