The Electrical and Electronics Engineering course at the University of Algarve celebrates its 30th anniversary and will mark this anniversary with a seminar where we will talk about the past, the present, but mainly about the future of this course. The session is scheduled for the 8th of June, at 15 pm, in the amphitheater 00 of the Penha Campus Pedagogical Complex, in Faro.

The seminar “New Challenges and Opportunities” will feature the balance of “30 anos EEE”, with presentations by several guests and the exchange of experiences of former and current students.

These three decades of training engineers are a source of pride for the Instituto Superior de Engenharia (ISE) at UAlg. «Just the fact that an engineering course continues, after 30 years, to train engineers in a geographical area where tourism dominates and where the industrial fabric is weak, is more than enough reason for the balance to be positive», considers Jorge Semião, member of the organizing committee and professor at ISE.

"It is very good to see that engineers trained here are and have always been well accepted in companies," he added.

In these celebrations, not only the past, but also the future of this course will be in focus. "It is very important the collaboration of everyone, professors, students and, especially, alumni, who are in companies, because they are the ones who currently come to recruit UAlg and it is essential to know their needs and expectations when they need to recruit an engineer." believes Jorge Semião.

For the teacher, Electrical and Electronic Engineering has never been as important to society as it is today. “We are currently at the beginning of the fourth industrial revolution, with the introduction of robotics, artificial intelligence, data analysis and the internet of things, with all electronic equipment connected in a network and exchanging data”, he said.

In terms of energy, he says “we also have changes, with the increasing use of clean energy, the adoption of technologies with greater energy efficiency or mobility, with the growing use of electric vehicles”, concluded Jorge Semião.
