The President of the Republic Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa will inaugurate, on the 27th of April, at 13 pm, the 00th Ovibeja.

The President will also attend the ceremony for attributing the name of the Parque de Feiras e Exposições de Beja to Manuel de Castro e Brito, the great congregator of efforts and wills in the organization and development of Ovibeja and the region.

The ceremony was also attended by Capoulas Santos, Minister of Agriculture, and Carlos Moedas, European Commissioner for Research, Science and Innovation.

The attribution of the name of the Fairs and Exhibitions Park to Manuel de Castro e Brito was recently deliberated by the Municipality of Beja, resulting from a proposal presented about two years ago by ACOS – Agricultores do Sul, organizer of Ovibeja, which, this year, it takes place from April 27th to May 1st.

Manuel de Castro e Brito, who died in March 2016, was president of ACOS for nearly 30 years and has been the driving force behind Ovibeja since its first edition.

For the construction of the Parque de Feiras e Exposições de Beja, inaugurated in 2000 by the then prime minister António Guterres, «the determination of Castro e Brito in his persistent influence and conversations with political decision-makers for the realization of this work was decisive». says the Ovibeja organization.

Better conditions and more room for growth and consolidation for Ovibeja and the creation of an infrastructure with strategic relevance for the city of Beja and for the region were some of the objectives pursued by Castro e Brito for the construction of the Fairs and Exhibitions Park.

Running from the 27th of April to the 1st of May, the commemorative edition of Ovibeja's 35th anniversary also includes an illustrative exhibition of the main milestones in its path.

As usual, Ovibeja once again has a strong musical component, with live concerts. On the 27th, the Xutos e Pontapés perform, on the 28th Richie Campbell and, on the 30th, the Algarvean Diogo Piçarra. The concerts are always at 21 pm.
