The national final of the 9th edition of FameLab, the largest science communication contest in the world, will take place on April 12, at 17:30 pm, at Coliseu dos Recreios, in Lisbon. Among the finalists is Catarina Raposo, researcher at the Center for Research in Biomedicine (CBMR) of the University of Algarve (UAlg).

The ceremony, integrated into the National Geographic Summit, will have 11 more participants: Cláudia Pereira, João Batina, João Cardoso, Fábio Sousa, Inês Ferreira Guedes, Bárbara Pinho, João Castelhano, Carolina Piedade, Tiago Ribeiro da Costa, Nuno Martins and Ricardo Neves .

The finalists will try to prove, in just three minutes and without any audiovisual support, that they are the best choice to represent Portugal in the FameLab international final, taking place in June at the Cheltenham Science Festival, in the United Kingdom.

The communication content, clarity and charisma demonstrated will be the evaluation criteria used by the jury, chaired by Carlos Fiolhais (University of Coimbra) and which includes Teresa Firmino (Science journalist at Público newspaper), David Bidarra (winner of the National Final of FameLab 2017), Diana Prata (Researcher at the Institute of Molecular Medicine) and Catarina Barradas (Marketing Director at Fox).

DNA, anti-oxidants, fainting, intra-cellular messages and technologies for decoding brain activity will be some of the themes that will shine on the stage of Coliseu dos Recreios.

FameLab is a science communication contest aimed at those who work or study in the fields of science, technology, engineering or mathematics. It was created in 2005 at the Cheltenham Science Festival and gained international expression, currently having more than 30 competing countries, from Europe to Asia. In Portugal, it is organized by Ciência Viva and the British Council, in partnership with universities and Ciência Viva Centers throughout the country. This year's edition also has the support of National Geographic.
