The exhibition “Writing in Baixo Alentejo, from its origins to our days” will be inaugurated in Ourique, at the Jorge Sampaio Municipal Library, next Thursday, April 5th, at 17:30 pm.

According to the Municipality of Ourique, «the purpose of the exhibition is to disseminate the historical and cultural heritage of this territory and has focused on the theme of Writing in Baixo Alentejo for 2500 years, presenting archaeological pieces or documents from each of the Network's councils [ of Baixo Alentejo Museums], which, as a whole, bear witness to this chronological path».

Ourique is represented by the “Estela de Arzil”, an inscription from the Southwestern Script dated from the XNUMXst Iron Age (XNUMXth-XNUMXth centuries BC). At the time of the inauguration, archaeologist Samuel Melro, from the Regional Directorate of Culture of the Alentejo and researcher and co-responsible for the ESTELA project, will be present, who will give a brief presentation on the Estela de Arzil and Escrita do Sudoeste.

This itinerant exhibition, «supported by a current and effective graphic language, started its journey in June 2017 and, from next summer, will be on display in other parts of the country, disclosing and promoting the region's heritage, one of its greatest resources. to attract visitors and create wealth and development», adds the Câmara de Ourique.
