José Carlos Barros and Cristóvão Norte, PSD deputies elected by the Algarve, questioned the Environment minister today about the situation of leachate runoff from the Sotavento Algarvio Sanitary Landfill causing pollution of the Vascão stream.

"This occurrence of leachate has been taking place for two weeks, with the pollution of the river being visible to the naked eye, with run-off water representing an environmental attack", stress the social democrats. In recent days, «the polluted water table extended to the site of Fornalha, about three kilometers away from the landfill».

The Algarve parliamentarians want to know "if the situation is known to the Ministry of the Environment and what actions have been or are being taken to resolve the problems identified."

They also requested information on the assessments or inspection actions that have been carried out by the Ministry of Environment with a view to guaranteeing good environmental performance associated with the operation and operation of the landfill.
