The XI Algarve Wine Contest takes place on the 7th of May, at Teatro Mascarenhas Gregório, in Silves.

In parallel, on the same day, the Algarve Wine Commission (CVA) promotes the second edition of the Algarve Wine Symposium, debating various issues relevant to the sector and economic agents in the region.

Continuing the success of the previous edition, this year the Vitivinícola Symposium takes place in Silves, in the auditorium of the Municipal Library, from 9:00 am, on the 7th of May.

The opening of the topics under debate is the responsibility of the president of IVV (Institute of Vine and Wine) Frederico Falcão, who will address the national market, highlighting the positive evolution of the sector, with emphasis on the Algarve, the fastest growing region in percentage of production in the past campaign.

Enotourism is the panel that ends the morning, with a panel on the Algarve's producers, dedicated to the promotion and marketing of wines, in the afternoon, with various interventions from the distribution sector, digital marketing, and the activity of brotherhoods.

CVA will also take stock of the “Algarve Wines & Spirits” project and of the studies on the region that it is carrying out, based on the application that is underway with the support of CRESC Algarve 2020 for its implementation.

In parallel, the XI Algarve Wine Contest is taking place at Teatro Gregório Mascarenhas in Silves, organized by the CVA and with the technical coordination of Escanções de Portugal, in which the jury will elect, in addition to the Best Algarve Wine of 2018 – with the Great Gold Medal, those who may bear the title of Gold, Silver and Bronze Medal on their labels and communication.

In the previous edition, in addition to the Great Gold Medal, six wines were awarded the Gold Medal and 20 the Silver. In the previous edition, the jury did not award a Bronze Medal, due to the high quality of the products presented, which obtained averages above 84 points.

The awards of the Contest will be given at the end of the Symposium work to be carried out by Miguel Freitas, Secretary of State for Forests and Rural Development.

Admission to the Symposium is free, subject only to prior registration that can be made here
