The Association of Cultural Managers of the Algarve (AGECAL) promotes, on the 4th and 5th of May, in Tavira, an International Conference on Cultural Management, to mark its 10th anniversary.

The program of this conference, which will take place at the Municipal Library of Tavira, has not yet been revealed.

A AGECAL was created on April 17, 2008, in Tavira, when 18 professionals from the Algarve culture, from Faro, São Brás de Alportel, Lagos, Tavira and Vila Real de Santo António, decided to start a joint work that is now about to complete a decade.

According to AGECAL, «the decision to create the association resulted from the identification of the need to qualify regional development, integrating in it the cultural dimension almost absent from the discourse on the region and helping to reflect and socio-professional training».

«The diagnosis of “Faro 2005 – National Capital of Culture” had highlighted the region's weaknesses, lacking in strategic thinking, planning, infrastructure functioning in complementarity, it was also noted the lack of professional structures and, above all, the offer of university and socio-professional training”.

Since then, AGECAL has promoted courses, conferences and other initiatives, such as the Festa do Barrocal Algarvio, which took place last May in the village of Santo Estêvão.
