“Can cultural organizations make Politics? Must?" This is the theme of the next debate at Acesso Cultura, to be held tomorrow, April 17, Tuesday, at 18 pm, with simultaneous sessions in São Brás de Alportel, Évora, Funchal, Lisbon, Porto and Vila Nova de Famalicão.

This debate, with free admission, will take place at the Museu do Traje of São Brás de Alportel and counts, as guests, with Elisabete Rodrigues, journalist and director of Sul Informação, Gil Silva, director of Teatro das Figuras, Paulo Penisga, professor and Rui Parreira, archaeologist. Emanuel Sancho, director of the Museu do Traje will be the moderator.

“Can cultural organizations do politics? Must? The question could also be put this way: Can cultural organizations be neutral? Must? In cases where neutrality is defended, there seems to be some confusion regarding what is meant by “political” (and by “partisan”). There is still some concern regarding the possibility of alienating part of the public for defending certain political positions», explains Acesso Cultura.

On the other hand, «there are more and more cultural organizations that want to assume their responsibilities in what is thought, debate and practice within the scope of our common life in the city (polis) and in the world. Some see this as an obligation; others, a certain opportunism. Guardians do not always feel comfortable».

Therefore, those invited to this debate will also talk about these questions: “What are the risks for cultural organizations when taking one or another position? What are the expectations of citizens?”
