Muge, lamprey, saboga and eels, made in different ways, are some of the delicacies featured at the Fish Festival in Rio, on April 7th and 8th, in the old mining port of Pomarão, in Mértola.

This is an event that celebrates the values and richness of southern gastronomy.

In addition to the river flavors, the Rio Fish Festival is a meeting point for other flavors from the county, such as traditional bread, cheeses, sausages and wine.

This year's edition bets, once again, on popular music, with emphasis on the performance of “Leo e Leandro”, on Saturday night, in river trips, hiking, sport fishing and mountain biking. At midnight the traditional fireworks will take place, followed by a ball with Miguel Oliveira.

The second day of the Rio Fish Festival begins with a workshop dedicated to new opportunities for nautical tourism on the Guadiana River. Traditional music with the presence of several groups will accompany the snacks throughout the day.

The Rio Fish Festival is organized by the Municipality of Mértola, with the collaboration of the Association of Hunters of Bracials, the Cultural and Recreational Association of Espírito Santo, the Entrepreneurs Association of the Guadiana Valley, of the Ayntamiento del Grando, the Municipality of Alcoutim, the Casa do Povo of Santana de Cambas, the Recreational and Cultural Center of Picoitos/Festival Committee, the Sport Fishing Club “Os Amigos do Guadiana” in Mértola and the Parish Council of Santana de Cambas.
