Animal bones that tell stories and make us better understand the history of humanity will be at the center of the lecture that archaeologist Sónia Gabriel will deliver on Friday, March 9, at Centro Ciência Viva (CCV) in Lagos.

The center will dedicate a “6th with Science” to archaeozoology, or zooarcheology, a discipline dedicated to the study of animal remains recovered from archeological sites.

«Starting from the questions “What bone is it?” and “Which animal does it belong to?”, Sónia Gabriel will explain how human communities in the past related to the animal world», according to the CCV lacobrigense.

"The osteological collections (bones) of reference are fundamental for understanding which animals ate our ancestors, how their diet varied throughout the year, among other information that allows us to understand our past as a social species," added the center .

In addition to the lecture, a small practical demonstration will be held using some copies of the reference collections where participants will be able to see and handle the copies.

Sónia Gabriel is an archaeologist (archeozoology), PhD and co-curator of the reference osteological collections of the Laboratory of Archaeosciences of the Directorate General for Cultural Heritage.
