The demonstrators who participated, this Wednesday, in Lagos, in the march “A Revolta da Santola”, against oil and gas exploration, delivered, in addition to their manifesto, a “nice felt spider” to Galp and Joaquina Matos , mayor.

This "peaceful march", which was promoted by several surf schools and the Association of Surf Schools of Costa Vicentina, brought together, according to the organization, "hundreds of demonstrators".

The group of citizens also delivered, in addition to the spider crab and the manifesto, information on how to participate in the Preliminary Consultation that is taking place at the participate.pt, so that there is an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA), and a list of the next actions to be carried out shortly.

In the meeting with Joaquina Matos, the protesters asked the mayor to carry out "clarification sessions for the population and help with access to the Internet so that all citizens can express their position".

In a note sent to the newsrooms, the protesters emphasize that “on the day the Public Consultation was opened, AMAL (Intermunicipal Community of the Algarve) and all mayors received an email requesting clarification sessions, by part of the Citizens' Movement Grupo Stop Petróleo Vila do Bispo”, but that “to date, there has been no response”.

For the 14th of April, at 15 pm, a new demonstration is scheduled, in Lisbon, starting at Largo Camões, with buses having already been requested from the municipalities of the Algarve.

In addition to surfing, bodyboarding, diving, maritime tourism, or shellfish schools, various Movements/Associations linked to the cause were present at the event, as well as the Frenchwoman Olivia Piana, two-time European champion in technical sup race, number 3 in the world and runner-up in “Pacific Paddle Games”.
