José Gonçalves assumed the presidency of the municipality of Aljezur since the 23rd, as a consequence of the request of suspension of office by the former mayor José Amarelinho.

The request, stresses the Aljezur Chamber in a press release, was "considered and voted on in an extraordinary meeting of the local authority", having determined "the replacement in the functions of chairman of the municipality of José Amarelinho by its vice-president José Gonçalves».

"This request for suspension of office was an act of the entire and free personal will of José Amarelinho, for reasons that only matter to him, and which thus deserves the respect of all", adds the note from the municipality.

Under the terms of the law, the suspension of the mandate of the elected president of the Chamber implies that this position "will be held by the candidate placed in second place on the winning list of the municipal elections".

However, councilor Fátima Neto was appointed as the new vice-president of the Aljezur Chamber.

Furthermore, to complete the executive (the PS has three members elected to the Chamber), the member immediately following the PS list was called. In this case, this responsibility falls to the fourth member of the list competing for the 2017 Municipal Elections, António Carvalho, who had already been a councilor in the previous term.

The now president of the Chamber José Gonçalves guarantees that the autarchy “will continue to develop all its activities, giving full execution to the political program mostly supported by voters during the last Municipal Elections”.

The new mayor also intends to "continue to carry out the mandate with total commitment and dedication, uncompromisingly defending the interests of the population and the territory."

“The mandate given by voters must be exercised for the benefit of all citizens, associations and companies that interact with the territory. This is the guarantee that remains and will mark the performance of this Executive. The commitment remains and the will to carry it out is unshakable», he adds.

José Gonçalves adds that "the point we are at resulted from the efforts of all those who contributed to getting us here, and the point at which we are heading in the future will be one of great ambition and will result from the commitment and dedication of all."

"All ongoing projects will continue and new ones will emerge during the course of the current mandate, in accordance with the established opportunities and the municipal program that supported the election of the current members of the executive, supported by the last elections of 2017", said the mayor .

«Following this plan, this is the purpose, which we believe is common to all. From each and every one of the elected mayors, the workers of the Municipality and other municipalities, citizens, associations, other living forces and companies of the Municipality, in the construction of a common future because, after all, everyone counts!” concluded the president of Chamber of Aljezur.

The current executive (permanent and non-permanent) of the Municipality of Aljezur will thus be constituted:
President – José Gonçalves (PS)
Councilors:
– Fatima Neto (PS)
– Antonio Carvalho (PS)
– Rogério Furtado (PCP-ENP)
– Helder Cabrita (PPD/PSD+CDS-PP+MPT)
