“Inova Algarve” conference brought together more than 300 people to talk about innovation

The conference “Inova Algarve 2020”, which took place on the 15th and 16th of March, at the headquarters of NERA – Business Association of the Algarve Region, in Loulé, «had more than 300 participants», among entrepreneurs, entrepreneurs, teachers, researchers and representatives of regional institutions, to talk about business innovation in Portugal and Europe. 

This initiative, organized by NERA and AMAL – Algarve Intermunicipal Community, was attended by Miguel Freitas, Secretary of State for Forests and Rural Development, Ana Mendes Godinho, Secretary of State for Tourism and José Apolinário, Secretary of State for Fisheries.

Ao Sul Informação, Miguel Freitas defended, on the sidelines of the session in which he participated, that the Algarve needs to work on «local systems of innovation».

All are «nationally renowned leaders of institutions related to the sectors of RIS3 Algarve (Tourism, Agri-food, Sea, ICT and Creative and Cultural Industries, Renewable Energies and Health, Wellness and Life Sciences) and entrepreneurs who presented and debated their vision for regional innovation,” says NERA.

During the two days that this conference took place, the interventions of Jorge Botelho, president of AMAL, Vítor Aleixo, president of the Loulé Council, Paulo Águas, rector of the University of Algarve, Francisco Serra, president of the Commission of Regional Coordination and Development (CCDR) of the Algarve, and João Faria, representative of the European Commission.

This conference also counted with the collaboration and participation of several regional institutions, among others, the Algarve Regional Coordination and Development Commission, the Regional Delegation of the Employment and Vocational Training Institute, the Algarve Regional Directorate of Agriculture and Fisheries, the Region of Algarve Tourism, the Business Support Center of the South – Algarve of the Institute for Support to Small and Medium Enterprises and Innovation (IAPMEI) and of CRIA – Division of Entrepreneurship and Technology Transfer of the University of Algarve.

Within the scope of this initiative, the Barometer for Innovation in the Algarve, the Study of the Potential for Innovation of Companies in the Algarve and the The roadmap technology in the strategic sectors of RIS3 Algarve, some of the products of the “Inova Algarve 2020” project.

The conference is part of the “Inova Algarve” 2020 project, co-financed by CRESC Algarve 2020, promoted by NERA – Business Association of the Algarve Region and by AMAL – Algarve Intermunicipal Community, with the aim of enabling companies in the Algarve to the development of innovative activities.
