The Café D'Alma group, whose origins are the roots of Portuguese music, will give a concert on Saturday, March 17, at 21 pm, at the Espaço Guadiana, in Alcoutim. Admission is free.

“Between traditional and fado, passing through cabaret music and flamenco, everything serves as an excuse to add a few more notes and tell another story”: this is how the band defines itself.

The Café D'Alma group was born in 2013 at the hands of guitarist and composer Nicholas Ratcliffe, whose desire to explore the roots of Portuguese music had been manifest for a long time. In this vast universe that makes up Portuguese music, he wanted fado, folklore and song to coexist, looking for a new musical language.

Upon meeting Nádia Sousa, the voice of the project, the complicity felt was a pleasant surprise and new sounds resulted that enriched the existing material, leaving the Portuguese style intact and always present. Fado, folklore and song were now joined by, among others, a smell of cabaret, flamenco and classical music.

The happy affinity led the duet to want to broaden the timbre suit, looking for musicians and exploring the instruments that best suited them.

Thus, Bárbara Santos, a young and talented cellist, Jaime Ferreira, bassist, and Sandrine Cleménte, on accordion, are joined by the duet.
