This year, the Alcoutim Council established protocols with universities, in the case of Porto and Algarve, to allow its young students from primary and secondary education to participate in the summer courses promoted by the two institutions.

To this end, the Municipality of Alcoutim approved, last Wednesday, the 14th, the signing of a protocol with the University of Porto and is planning to sign a similar protocol with the University of Algarve.

The objective is to "encourage the continuation of studies by young people in the municipality and encourage entry into higher education", explains the municipality.

The program aims at “fostering a taste for knowledge in different areas, familiarization with the university environment and contributing to the choice of a vocational path”.

Thus, under this partnership established with the University of Porto, the municipality ensures the expenses with accommodation and travel for all the municipality's students attending the 9th, 10th and 11th years of schooling.

The protocol that is expected to be signed with the University of Algarve will complement the existing training offer, as it includes as recipients of the summer courses students attending the 12th year of schooling.

“The excellent adherence of students to this program proved to be a winning bet. It is an added value in terms of encouraging the pursuit of studies and the personal, social and educational development of young people», underlines the mayor's president, Osvaldo dos Santos Gonçalves.

The summer course at the University of Porto lasts for one week, and interested parties must formalize their registration between May 4th and June 10th on the website https://universidadejunior.up.pt.

For any further clarification and to ensure travel and support in participating in this program, the Municipal Council's Social Action, Health and Education Office should be contacted via telephone (281 540 568) or e-mail (sofia.matilde@cm- alcoutim.pt).
