Tavira has a “Reading Week”, from March 5th to 9th, with workshops in schools, recitals and meetings with writers.

The initiative is from the Tavira Library Network, which invites public and private schools to celebrate reading.

There will also be a gallery of authors, an action that aims to disseminate, on the “Sobe e Desce” buses, “books that have made films”, says Câmara de Tavira.

Moments of spontaneous reading are also planned, in Paços do Concelho, by students of the Basic Education School nº 1 in Tavira.

Placing “Tavira a ler”, through readings of texts, poems and short stories, on Rádio Gilão, is another of this week's activities.

Also following this celebration, on March 9th, at 18 pm, at the Álvaro de Campos Municipal Library, the awards ceremony for the 00st Book Trailers 1 competition, whose main purpose was to dynamize and promote reading, culture and libraries.

Um book trailer is a short video that aims to present, in a brief and visual way, «the atmosphere of a book, without showing the complete plot or the outcome, in order to suggest and create interest in the reader. The contest was aimed at the entire community, namely, the school».

The 12th edition of the Reading Week has the support of the Municipality of Tavira and Rádio Gilão.
