Laura Dias, co-creator of the project “Dias de Aromas” and Carlos Fernandes, co-founder of “Casa Modesta”, are the guest entrepreneurs at the February Beta Talk, mask for the next 16th, at Café Concerto do TEMPO – Teatro Municipality of Portimão.

«The two invited entrepreneurs will set the tone for an inspiring conversation, where the past meets the future, because thanks to their entrepreneurial spirit they gave life to old family properties and generated new lives, without ever forgetting the sustainable side and the value of what is ours», advances the Portimão Chamber.

Laura Dias has a degree in Business Management and began her career in banking in 2001, first working at Santander and then at Banco Barclays, as a business consultant.

Aroma Days

In 2013, «he made a turning point in his life, left the stand, grabbed a property owned by her husband's grandparents, on top of a mountain range between São Brás de Alportel and Faro and returned to his origins, dedicating himself to agriculture».

That is how “Dias de Aromas” was born, a project for the production of biological aromatic plants that combines agriculture and tourism. In addition to the production and sale of plants, under the brand name “Dias de Aromas”, they provide tourists who visit them with aromatic experiences.

According to Portimão, «the first years were of adaptation to this new life and they had some difficulties in finding their place in the market», but «they won by the differentiation of the products and by the way they are marketed».

Today, four years later, its fresh products reach restaurants and large supermarkets, and the dry ones, in condiments and infusions, can be found both in stores good gourmet food, as in large supermarkets, «continuing to provide experiences to tourists, of different nationalities, with visits to their farm».

Laura deals with different areas: from plantations, market prospecting, sales department, personnel management and financial management. «You feel like a more complete person, with dedication and enthusiasm in your different daily tasks», says the municipality.

Carlos Fernandes, on the other hand, is from Olhão, attended the Aeronautical Engineering course at the University of Beira Interior and the airline pilot course in Tires. In 2002, he started working at TV Cabo (NOS), in Lisbon, having performed various functions of customer support and audit and investigation, with the objective of preventing and detecting fraud situations.

However, in 2010, together with his sister, he grasped the dream and the desire to rehabilitate the grandparents' house where they both grew up, to rekindle the memories they had of the place in honor of their Modesto Grandfather.

In 2013, Carlos took a technical course in rural and environmental tourism and, in 2015, the dream came true and Casa Modesta was born.

The project is recent, «but it has already caught the attention of the media and various entities for its originality and architecture», having been chosen by the New York Times, one of the eight best family hotels in Europe. The “Condé Nast Johansens” elected the space as one of its places of excellence for 2017 and as the best environmental hotel in Europe. The architectural project of Casa Modesta, developed by the atelier Par, was also distinguished with the award Architizer A+Awards in the Hotels & Resorts category.
