The «largest business debate on the Barlavento Algarvio» will take place on the 24th of February at the Museu de Portimão. The days “Economy of the Barlavento under debate – potential, problems and solutions” will “launch an open debate in search of the best solutions for the region's central problems”, but will also serve to talk about the Algarve's trump cards, according to the Portimão Chamber.

This event is organized by the municipality of Portimo and by Algfuturo, the business association that organized the congress "for the Excellence of the Algarve's Economy" about a year ago. where the President of the Republic Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa was present.

It was, moreover, as a result of this congress that the idea of ​​holding the days arose, «with the aim of actively contributing to boosting the Barlavento area in the creation of more wealth and employment».

On February 24th «everything will be up for debate and the most relevant issues for the future of Barlavento and its municipalities will be considered, with emphasis on health as a key area of ​​well-being and social stability and a factor to attract investments and settle residents and labor». This time, Eduardo Cabrita, Minister of Internal Administration, and José Apolinário, Secretary of State for Fisheries will be present.

The program of the journeys, which can be consulted in full here (PDF), contemplates the holding of eight panels, «where fifty accredited and representative speakers will intervene».

Of these, the Municipality of Portimão highlights "a fundamental debate on the potential and bottlenecks, putting the development strategy for the area into the equation, with innovation, training and employment also being very strong themes".
