Volunteers will join for a “walk without garbage” on February 17th, starting at 9:00 am, in Mértola.

The idea is to "involve the local community in promoting a cleaner and garbage-free territory, particularly non-organic waste (plastic, paper, glass, etc.) that accumulates on the side of the county's roads and paths."

The activity will start at 9:00 am, with a bus departing from Mértola towards Alcaria dos Javazes, stopping in Espírito Santo to collect volunteers. Then, the volunteers will walk the road between Alcaria dos Javazes and Besteiros, in the parish of Espírito Santo. Return to the county seat is scheduled for 13:00.

Interested parties must register by the 15th of February at the Municipality of Mértola, by emails [email protected], helena [email protected], at the Parish Councils of Mértola and Espírito Santo or here

The walk has the collaboration of the Parish Councils of Mértola and Espírito Santo, Resialentejo and the Natural Park of Vale do Guadiana.

The first “Walk Without Garbage” took place on 20 January and was attended by 34 volunteers who collected 7300 liters of garbage (43 bags), of which 5100 were plastic, 1000 glass and 1200 paper.
