The regional elimination round of the international competition “Famelab”, for science communication, will take place on March 1st, at 18 pm, at the Teresa Gamito Amphitheater, on the Gambelas Campus of the University of Algarve, in Faro.

In this knockout, some semifinalists will be selected for the national edition of the competition.

The winner of the national final “FameLab Portugal”, taking place within the scope of the National Geographic Summit, on April 12, in Lisbon, will participate in the Cheltenham Science Festival, in the United Kingdom, in June, where he will compete in the finals “FameLab” together with the other international winners.

The “FameLab” is the world's leading international science communication competition, in which each competitor has three minutes to demonstrate their ability to communicate the most diverse scientific topics, using mainly words and gestures, without the help of multimedia support. Competitors are judged on the content, clarity and charisma of their presentations.

The competition was created with the aim of bringing science and scientists closer to the general public and is open to anyone aged 18 or over, working or studying in the fields of science, technology, engineering or mathematics.

Competitors submit, in online application form, a video with the oral presentation of the chosen theme.

“The quality and format of the video are not important, but they must give the jury a clear idea of what the presentation will be like in the regional qualifiers, in front of the public. The presentations in the phases that take place in Portugal are made in Portuguese. The national winner will make presentations in the international semi-finals and final in English», explains UAlg.

In Portugal, this initiative is promoted by the British Council and Ciência Viva – National Agency for Scientific and Technological Culture. In the Algarve, it is a partnership that includes the participation of the Ciência Viva Centers of Lagos, Algarve and Tavira and the University of Algarve.

If you want to be one of the next faces of Science Communication in Portugal, then you can apply from the 1st to the 15th of February.
