The 20th edition of Março Jovem starts in Portimão, this Saturday, February 24th, with a diversified program and full of proposals ranging from music to sports, through theater, cinema, street entertainment and workshops.

Throughout this month of March, the municipality is marked by initiatives and activities in sports, dance, education, music, theater, cinema, among others.

This year's edition starts on Saturday, with the 11th edition of the contest for new talents from Escola Secundária Manuel Teixeira Gomes, starting at 21 pm, at Portimão Arena.

The usual opening party will take place on March 1st, at 17:30 pm, at Escola Secundária Poeta António Aleixo, in an event that will feature the special participation of musician Daniel Kemish.

In the year in which Portimão is elected European City of Sport for 2019, Sport has a special focus in this edition of the Young March, with a diverse range of free sports offer.

On March 2, a solidarity party with two special classes at the Village Fitness gymnasium, on March 3 and 4, the first and second stages of the BMX Race Portugal Cup at Parque da Juventude, and between 5 and 11 , the Instituto Superior Manuel Teixeira Gomes promotes the Week of Exercise and Sport ISMAT'18.

There will also be an open Krav Maga class on the 17th, the I Aquathlo Indoor de Alvor on the 24th and a skateboarding tournament at the Praça da Marina de Portimão and open zumba and pop dance classes at the pavilion gimnodesportivo de Portimão, both initiatives on March 31st.

Throughout the month, it will also be possible to practice various sports for free at Cross Arade, at Villa Prana Guesthouse & Therapies, at the sports complexes of Alvor and Mexilhoeira Grande and at the Municipal Swimming Pool of Portimão.

In the area of ​​music and entertainment, the March Young 2018 Band Contest, which will take place at Bar Marginália, in Portimão, with the qualifiers taking place on the 10th, 17th and 24th, and the grand final on the 25th, will be highlighted. start at 22:00.

There will also be a special edition of the radio program “Choque Frontal” on Alvor FM, which will feature the special participation of the rock band “Mopho”, taking place on March 14, at TEMPO, from 21:15.

On the 17th, Portimão Arena receives the sold-out concert, “Algarve in the night”, by the team of announcers for the program “As Mornings da Comercial”, on Rádio Comercial.

Cinema is also present at the Young March and the Portimão museum will host on March 7, 14, 21 and 28 the film cycle of the Contramaré association, in a co-production with the Goethe Institut, this year under the motto “O som ea City". On the 31st, the same venue will host the cycle “Filmes da Malta de Portimão”, in charge of a group of young filmmakers from Portimão.

The aspect of education and training remains, likewise, a strong focus, with a very diverse range of workshops and awareness-raising actions in the municipality's schools.

Highlights include workshops on the making of Algarvian tiborna and construction of vegetable gardens on balconies, at Quinta Pedagógica de Portimão, photography and design workshops at the Gil Eanes de Portimão Professional School, scientific illustration workshops at the Manuel Teixeira municipal library and workshops on programming, psychology and mindfulness and well-being at Instituto Superior Manuel Teixeira Gomes.

Also included in the program, the III Urban Sketchers Algarve Meeting will take place, taking place again in Portimão on the 24th and 25th, marking the National Day of Historic Centers, and challenging young people and everyone who likes this area to draw. the city, its buildings, places and people.

The March edition of Beta-Talk is once again part of the March Youth program and on the 16th it brings to the Dual Portimão Center two young entrepreneurs to share their experience.

In schools, various awareness-raising actions will also be promoted, highlighting the “Stop Phubbing” campaign, which will travel through elementary schools in the municipality between 1 and 9, making 2nd and 3rd cycle students aware of the dangers inherent in the behavior of ignoring people who are nearby using the smartphone.

The International Civil Protection Day, marked on March 1, will trigger, through the Municipal Civil Protection Service and the Fire Department of Portimão, a set of initiatives and awareness-raising actions during this day and throughout the month of March with young people and municipal school network.

Also in the context of the Young March, the Escola Profissional Gil Eanes shows in the shop windows of Balcão Único the talent of its students from the Professional Technical Photography Course and CEF Course type 2 and 3 – Photography Operator.

On display are some works, selected after an internal competition, which aim to illustrate the evolution of photography from the beginnings to the present day, through the use of analogue and digital techniques. In this exhibition, photographs that reveal the before and after of some of the city's emblematic spaces can also be appreciated.

The March Young 2018 also appeals to the social spirit and, on March 16, encourages young people to participate in the blood collection session that will take place at the sports pavilion, organized by the Barlavento do Algarve Blood Donors Association, and on the 21st, collaborating in the preparation of food baskets to offer to social solidarity institutions, in an organization of the Food Bank Against Hunger of the Algarve.

During these days, there will also be several exhibitions to be visited at the Casa Manuel Teixeira Gomes, at the Parish Council of Alvor and at the Professional School Gil Eanes de Portimão, designed by young artists and students from the municipality's schools.

The March Young 2018 will close on April 7th at Portimão Arena with the XVIII Enportunas – Academic Tunas Meeting which, as usual, combines the musical irreverence of the Algarve academic tunas with a DJ for a very lively show.

March Young is an initiative organized by the Municipality of Portimão, which involves thousands of young people and has the commitment of around fifty entities, including schools, clubs, associations and companies.
