The Municipality of Silves has delegated new powers to the Parish Councils of the municipality and will transfer more than one million euros to these entities, between 2018 and 2021, the duration of the current municipal mandate.
The delegation of powers of the Chamber to the Boards for the next four years has already been approved at a meeting of the Chamber and the Municipal Assembly and foresees "a significant increase in transferred funds which, in this period, will almost double".
«About half of this amount is intended to guarantee the exercise of delegated powers in the area of urban cleaning in Alcantarilha and Pêra and in Algoz and Tunes, as well as urban cleaning and management and maintenance of green spaces in Armação de Pêra, São Bartolomeu de Messines and São Marcos da Serra”, according to the Chamber of Silves.
Outside this lot is the Junta de Silves, bearing in mind that, «for reasons of an operational and logistical nature, urban cleaning and the management and maintenance of green spaces in the county seat is guaranteed by municipal services».
In numbers, the amount that will be transferred goes from 162 thousand euros, from the previous term, to the 572 euros that will be given to the Parish Councils, until the end of the current term – «483 of which in urban sanitation and 89,5 thousand in management and maintenance of green spaces».
The remaining funds will be distributed to all parishes, including Silves, to cover competences in various areas, namely «maintenance, conservation and repair of municipal roads and roads and management, conservation, repair and cleaning of municipal retail markets (except São Marcos da Serra) and municipal cemeteries».
The Silvense Chamber also transferred competences in the management, conservation, repair and cleaning of the Tunis Polysport, in the conservation, repair and cleaning management of the mortuary houses in Armação de Pêra and Silves and in the management and current maintenance of the monthly market in Silves.
"With this policy of delegation of powers, the municipal executive intends to bring public decisions closer to the citizens, the promotion of territorial cohesion in the municipality and the qualitative improvement of the provision of proximity public service by the Parishes and Parish Unions of the municipality", concluded the city.
