The work to remove the dredger that overturned last week at the Armona bar, in Olhão, has been suspended […]

Removal work from dredger that overturned last week in Barra da Armona, in Olhão, were suspended due to the forecast of strong maritime agitation. The resumption of the operation is scheduled for January 31, next Wednesday.

As Commander Nunes Ferreira, captain of the Port of Olhão, revealed to journalists, the specialized company hired by the shipowner to carry out the turning and refloating of the dredger has not been successful in the attempts it has made so far and has been facing several problems.

“On Tuesday, the vessels found by the shipowner to try to turn the dredger longitudinally were not enough, with two 2-tonne balloons bursting during the operation. This Wednesday, the work was limited to removing the balloons and removing the air from the front of the vessel, to make it more stable in the coming days», revealed the representative of the National Maritime Authority, the entity that is overseeing the course. of the works.

So far, added Nunes Ferreira, "fuel containment has not changed" and the "monitoring of possible dredger movements and spills" will continue to be carried out in the coming days by the captaincy of Olhão and the Maritime Police.

The captain of the Port of Olhão pointed out that, despite the suspension of work, the notice to navigation that was issued a few days ago remains in force. In other words, «it is forbidden to approach the dredger of any navigation within 500 meters».

Until January 31, the day on which work should resume, «a new plan for removing the dredger will be studied».
