The singer Maria João and the group Moçoilas, composed by Margarida Guerreiro, Inês Rosa and Teresa Silva, gave «an unforgettable concert», on the 14th of January, at the Cine-Teatro Louletano, in Loulé.

The room was full, watching an "unprecedented and surprising encounter" between Maria João and the Moçoilas.

It was from a commission made by the Cine-Teatro under the musical cycle “O Longe é Aqui” (which, since 2016, aims to enhance and encourage meetings between local musicians and recognized figures from the national scene), Maria João joined to Moçoilas for the creation of a new show, this after rehearsals in Lisbon and a four-day artistic residency at the Cine-Teatro before the concert.

«Under the musical direction and arrangements of the renowned João Frade (accordion) and João Farinha (keyboards), and with the participation of the inspiring and multifaceted percussionist Quiné Teles, the concert's line-up had a very contagious dynamic, despite almost two hours of concert, the time was not really felt to pass», says Câmara de Loulé.

There were «several moments of happy» musical fusion in which the universe of jazz, the sounds linked to world music (Brazil, Africa) and original compositions by Maria João joined the traditional songs of the Mediterranean matrix of the Moçoilas repertoire, in themes such as “Arrimadinha”, “Corridinho”, “Luizinha”, “Romance da Dona Mariana”, “Qu'é what do you have to do with it?”, “Amores” or “I have a cough in my hair”.

«In addition to the artistic dimension, the human complicity evident between Maria João and the Moçoilas (who had never been working together) was another ingredient that made this show so special, to the point that Maria João was moved in several moments of the concert and even embraced on stage the trio of women from the South».

In the aftermath of the concert, on your page Facebook, Maria João would describe the experience in Loulé as follows: «I can't explain well how it was. Music unites everyone, saves everything, cures everything, does everyone good. It was wonderful, wonderful. I'm privileged, that's the one».

Already before, at the concert, Maria João had confessed on stage: «When there is music inside, in whatever universe, things happen».

During the show, «the audience effusively applauded each theme and at the end surrendered and gave the artists a standing ovation. encore'.

«This unexpected crossing of latitudes and musical influences was, moreover, intensely commented on immediately on social networks, especially emphasizing the surprising fusion and happy marriage between two (apparently) so different languages».

As part of its programmatic strategy, Cine-Teatro Louletano will continue to present new shows in this line, the next ones being on the 6th of May (with César Matoso and Ronda dos Quatro Caminhos, accompanied by a together of strings and an Alentejo choir, and also with guest guitarist Ricardo J. Martins) and on June 22 (with the young man from Quarteira Bertílio Santos and Aurea).
