The Government of Angola is studying the possibility of closing its General Consulate in Faro. According to the newspaper Angolan Country, the Secretariat for Diplomatic Affairs and International Cooperation of the Presidency of the Republic proposes the extinction of nine embassies, 17 consulates, among which those of Faro and from Lisbon, and ten commercial representations around the world.

The proposal, cited by O País, considers that "it is not justified, from our point of view, to maintain General Consulates installed in capitals of countries where there are diplomatic missions, for various reasons, among which we highlight a kind of bicephaly, with all the inconveniences that flow from it».

In addition to Lisbon and Faro, the proposal defends the closure and its consequent transformation into consular sectors with the respective diplomatic missions of the consulates general in London (Great Britain), Guangzhou (China), Dubai, New York (United States), Rotterdam (Netherlands), Hong Kong, Paris (France), Los Angeles (California, United States), Houston (United States), Venezuela, São Paulo (Brazil), Macau/China, Frankfurt (Germany), Toulouse (France), Cape Town ( South Africa) and Johannesburg (South Africa).

With regard to embassies, closing is proposed in Singapore and Indonesia, Vietnam, Holland, Mexico, Canada, Greece, Hungary, Poland and Guinea Conakry.

Portugal is also part of the group of countries where the closure of commercial representations is proposed, along with Italy, China, Brazil, Spain, United States, South Africa, Belgium, Macau and Switzerland

The proposal, which aims to "concentrate resources and rationalize costs" will save, according to O País, "more than 66,3 million dollars to the coffers of the Angolan State".
