A cleaning at Praia do Inatel, in Albufeira, will take place on the 9th of December, from 11:00 to 13:00.

The objective of this initiative, organized by Quercus with the collaboration of Straw Patrol and Pata Ativa – Association for the Defense of Animals and Nature of Albufeira, is to appeal to the «need to protect, conserve and respect marine life and our beaches», explains Quercus.

For example, the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 14 (SDG 14) aims to protect marine life and is intended to 'significantly prevent and reduce marine pollution of all types, especially from land-based activities, including debris and nutrient pollution by 2025'.

Quercus therefore considers that SDG 14 and actions such as beach cleaning “are essential opportunities to sensitize citizens to protect and value the oceans, which are central to the sustainability of vital systems, and to call for sustainable development that satisfies the needs of the present, but do not call into question the needs of future generations».

In the last initiative of StrawPatrol, on the 25th of November, on the island of Faro, 208 kilos of garbage were collected. 46% of these were plastic, having been collected 724 cigarette butts in a total of 2558 items, in an action of an hour and a half involving 35 volunteers.

Participation in this initiative is free and the material needed for beach cleaning will be made available on site. If you can, however, bring gloves and bags. Quercus recommends that everyone who wants to participate bring comfortable shoes, a hat and water.

Registration is free, but mandatory for insurance purposes. To this end, you must send, by the 7th (Thursday), at 12:00 noon, an email with your full name, date of birth and your Citizen Card/Identity Card number to terezafonseca@quercus .pt.
