Paulo Águas will take office as the new rector of the University of the Algarve (UAlg) this Wednesday, December 13, on University Day.

The celebrations, which close the program for the 38th anniversary of UAlg, begin at 16:30 pm, in the Grand Auditorium of the Campus de Gambelas, with a public session open to the community.

The ceremony begins with the now traditional academic procession, at 17 pm. Then follows the last speech by António Branco as dean of UAlg, who has been in charge of the academy since 00.

One of the highlights of the ceremony includes the intervention of Vitor Neto, president of the General Council, and the speech by Paulo Águas.

The ceremony will also feature other interventions, including the representative of non-teaching staff Maria João Barradas, Rodrigo Teixeira, president of the Academic Association of the University of Algarve, and the representative of teachers Sandra Pais.

During the ceremony, the University's medals will be awarded to employees who have completed 25 years of service, diplomas to new doctors and, with the support of Caixa Geral de Depósitos, the University of the Algarve Prize will also be awarded to graduates with merit in the academic year of 2015/2016.
