This Saturday, an Air Force helicopter rescued two German sailors from the “Sunflower”, which was in difficulties due to the state of the sea, 65 nautical miles (120 kilometers) south of Sagres.

The emergency alert through the satellite radiobeacon of the German sailboat “Sunflower” was received yesterday morning by the Navy, through the Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Center in Lisbon.

According to the Navy, after contacting the sailboat, the crew asked to be "rescued immediately, given the difficulties they were in and due to adverse sea conditions."

The Navy immediately requested the Air Force to activate a search and rescue helicopter (EH-101) that rescued at around 13:00 pm.

The two crew, two men aged 30 and 39, of German nationality, who had left Lagos yesterday and were heading to Madeira, were meanwhile taken to the hospital in Faro in a stable situation.
