David Santos, who has just been re-elected as president of the PSD Algarve's District Political Commission (CPD), wants the future list of candidates for deputies for that party to have an "unquestionable connection" to the Algarve region.

One of the purposes of the new CPD is to "ensure that the list of deputies to be elected by the Algarve constituency in the next Legislative Elections, expected to take place in 2019, is made up of elements with indisputable connection to the Algarve region", stresses the PSD, in a statement sent to the newsrooms.

This is one of the main points of the program with which David Santos was again chosen as leader of the Algarve Social Democrats, in the elections for the 2017-2019 biennium, which took place last Saturday, 9 December. Although the president of the District stays, almost everything else has changed in Organs district bodies.

The PSD/Algarve stresses, in its press release, that this electoral act was "marked by a significant participation, above the seven hundred militants", a number even more significant due to the fact that there was only "one voting list" and the elections take place "over a long weekend".

On the other hand, stresses that party, there was "a significant process of renewal" of the elements of Organs district bodies. This is because, despite David Santos having remained as president of the CPD, «a significant part of this body is made up of other militants», who were not there in the previous term, while in the other district bodies «there was a change in all its presidents. ».

Thus, the Board of the District Assembly is now chaired by Luís Gomes (from Vila Real de Santo António), the District Jurisdiction Council, by Paulo Freitas (Albufeira), and the District Financial Audit Council, by Miguel Madeira (Loulé) .

The program with which David Santos was re-elected is presented by the PSD as a “counterpoint” in relation to the previous one, with a “different focus”.

In the previous mandate, the program focused on Local Elections, in which the PSD/Algarve, "despite not having achieved its main objective", which was to increase the number of Municipal Councils, "managed to maintain" those that it already held and “reinforced the conditions of governability” for the majority, with the exception of Castro Marim.

Another objective had previously been to promote 'greater proximity to the sections', with David Santos holding 'CPD meetings in all councils, with section members and local elected representatives being invited to be present, promoting the widest possible discussion and aiming at greater participation, of local elected representatives, militants or independents».

This time, in addition to the purpose of guaranteeing that candidates for deputy have effective links to the region, the current program foresees the continuation of the decentralization of CPD meetings, but also aims "to bring the PPD/PSD closer to the Algarve". For this, “a study office will be created, which will promote lectures/debates with speakers from civil society”.

It will also promote the creation of a “municipal office, to support all those who were elected in the recent Municipal Elections”.
