The Tennis Center of Faro he became the national vice-champion of men's teams in the 1st tennis division 2017, in a tournament that took place in Carcavelos on Sunday, December 10th.
The team formed by athletes José Ricardo Nunes (captain), Tomás Falcão, Pedro Pereira, André Nunes, José Duarte and Terrence Das reached the final of the tournament, but was beaten by the Associação Académica de Coimbra team by 4-1. Thus, tennis players from Faro renewed their status as national runners-up, achieved in 2016.
The Chamber of Faro went public to congratulate the athletes and the club they represent "for the successes achieved".
The municipality recalled the history of the Tennis Center of Faro, through which «hundreds of athletes have passed, throughout its 33 years of life, under the experienced guidance of Professor Rosa Nunes – historic instructor of the sport and educator par excellence, already deserving of a merit medal from the municipality, in 2005» .
«Some of these tennis players have even reached positions of great competitive success that the city is very proud of. The most outstanding were undoubtedly the retired Rui Machado, who was number 59 in the world ranking (2011) and José Ricardo Nunes, multi-regional and national champion in several categories and who, once again, was determinant for the success of your club', according to the Chamber of Faro.
