António Alçada Baptista is the author of the month of December at the José Mariano Gago Municipal Library, in Olhão.
Born in 1927, in Covilhã, António Alçada Baptista died on December 7, 2008, in Lisbon.
«He graduated in Law, but it was in writing that he found a way to dedicate himself to the values of freedom and affection», says the Chamber of Olhão.
«A key figure in Portuguese culture in the last century, a large part of his published work is divided into essays, novels, chronicles and fiction, with special emphasis on “Peregrinação interior” (1971), “O tempo nas Palavra” (1973), “The laughter of God” (1994), or “The fabric of autumn” (1999), among others».
Between 1979 and 1985, he served as president of the Portuguese Book Institute.
